  1. I've recently just met your fearless, crazy leader Shauna, she is now working with my husband. I was very excited when I heard she had such of love of Africa and had summated "Kili". I did the climb with a girlfriend in Sept of 2003. On our final push for the summit, we found the experience to be more than amazing. To this day, there is nothing that will compare with the excitement we had when we reached the top......or the exhaustion!! It was the most physically and mentally challenging thing I've ever done, having said that, it was also the most positive and life changing thing that I've ever done!!! I suggest you take a lot of pictures, and when you think you've taken a lot, take some more. We did not take near enough pictures. Do a video diary each and every day, even when you can't get your breath. Enjoy the moment, each and every moment, take the time as you summit to remember where you are and that very few people do what you are doing. This is huge!! As you struggle up the mountain, you will say to yourself "why???" But, this experience will be with you for the rest of your lives. As you talk about it when you return home, people will listen to your story in pure awe. After months go by, you won't be talking about it as much, but trust me, friends will brag to other friends that they know someone that did "kili". You will then again have the opportunity to share your once in a lifetime experience!! I don't believe you will ever know the magnitude of what you are about to accomplish!! It is months and even years later the realization of climbing Kili will become real. As you watch people develop some sickness (maybe just a little and maybe a whole bunch) you will continue to ask yourself "WHY?", but it will come clear to you and you will know why when you summit this magnificent mountain. We stood on Gillman's peak and watched the sun rise and the moon set, it was something than very few people can really see, it is impossible to capture the magic of the moment in a picture, take a moment to make a memory that you can pull out at any time, memories are the only thing that will contain the magic that you will see and feel. Yes, by now, you are things of beauty......trust me, the "beauty" you see in yourself (physcially) only gets more beautiful as you climb higher. Ugh!! Take pictures........you will want to frame one of these pictures of beauty and show in your living room!!!! Stay safe, continue to climb....pullah, pullah!!! I'm sending positive thoughts of strength and determination for your successful summit of Mt. Kiliminjaro. You will hear from me again!!! Take pictures, do videos!!! Don't laugh too much, it wastes too much oxygen!! Smiles only!!! Eat lots of popcorn.....what's with the popcorn!!??????? There's a reason your fearless organizer isn't with you...........ONCE IS ENOUGH!!! You too will encourage people to do the climb, but when they ask if you would like to do it again.........chances are you will say no. But well worth doing!!!!! enjoy the magic of the mountain, Rhonda Summated Kili Sept. 11/03
